Stress

Do you experience stress?

What are the chances that you have no stress/anxiety in your life? Well, unless you are a monk living in a mountain cave, the chances are very high that it is part of your life. In modern society, it is a part of everyone’s life and with the way things are moving, it is not likely to go away soon. What’s worse is that it can lead to other serious health issues like high blood pressure, heart disease and most of all a heart attack. Isn’t that comforting…

So, what causes this problem? Well, for everybody it may be a bit different, but for most it is the little things throughout the course of a normal day that all bring about stress. More to the point, it is when the normal daily routine is disrupted.

I’m sure you can relate to some part of this normal day:

  • You wake the kids and they don’t want to get out of bed
  • They decide to dress themselves, they spill their breakfast
  • You can’t get them into the car for daycare
  • There is an accident on the way
  • You are late to work
  • Your computer freezes, again
  • Need to rush to get the kids by the 6:00 deadline
  • Forgot to get gas for the car, but you need to stop or you may run out
  • Have to drive above the speed limit to get to daycare in time
  • You have to get fast food for dinner again
  • Kids would rather watch TV than go to bed
  • Watch the nightly new before bed…news of economic problems, job loss, foreign war, gas price hikes, and local murder
  • Time to go to bed so you can get up and do it again tomorrow

Does this sound familiar…maybe not all of these things apply to you, but they can all add stress to your life. These are the everyday things that can go wrong.

What about the other things in all of our lives. These include:

  • Fear of job loss
  • Economic troubles
  • The housing market
  • Your savings
  • Your 401K
  • Your Kids college savings
  • Can you get out of debt
  • Will your kids grow up in a safe world
  • Global warming
  • Foreign wars
  • Weapons of mass distruction
  • Terrorist attacks
  • Taxes

The list goes on and on…

There isn’t too much you can do to change these things, but you can change the way you handle them. You need to find a way to relax, so that you can place your body back into the proper state so that you are ready to deal with tomorrow’s issues.

So how do you do this? Unfortunately, there is no magic pill that will help. Well, ok…there is, but that really isn’t the right way to address this problem. Turning to pharmaceuticals may be necessary in extreme cases, but this will lead to a lifetime of pill seeking to solve problems.

If you decide to deal with this naturally, there are many options that you can consider to help reduce stress. The key to dealing with stress is finding out what works best for you. Once you have found the key that will work for you, you will be able to find peace in your life.

Here are a few things to consider when looking for the key to reducing your stress:

  • Exercise (tennis, golf, running, walking, swimming, hiking…)
  • puzzles (suduku, crossword, jigsaw, word find…)
  • movies
  • writing
  • reading
  • fishing
  • yoga
  • meditation
  • cooking
  • new hobbies (woodworking, bird watching, pottery, stain glass, sewing…)
  • social media (twitter, facebook…)
  • games (pool, cards, poker, cribbage, darts, horse shoes, bean bag toss…)
  • Outdoor activities (horseback riding, quad riding, gardening, exploring…)
  • Painting

This is just a small list of what is possible… What you need to do is reflect back upon your life and try to remember what it was that you did that made you happy and relaxed. Most of these activities can be performed in 30 minutes, at the end of your day. Some can be performed throughout the day, when the need is greatest.

These little distractions, which are what they really are, will help to take your mind off of your problems, at least for a short time. If you find joy in what you are doing, then these breaks will help to alter your mood, which is often just what is needed to help you through the lows of your day.

In addition to the list above, there are other methods that can help to reduce your stress and place your body back into a calm state. One such method is adding nutritional supplements to your daily diet.

There are several plants and herbs that work to reduce the tension that you may be experiencing and place your body in a state of balance. The calming affects of these supplements is amazing and can really make a difference in your stress levels.

As parents of teenagers, we know a little about tension. In our quest to find peace in our lives we have implemented many of the activities above into our daily lives. Our children too, have found peace with several of these activities.
